1.REPATRIATION
One of the primary goals of "Yerkir" UNGO is to assist
in the repatriation work.
2.WHY
DID THEY LEAVE?
After the collapse of the Soviet economy, the smaller dependent
economies also followed. This phenomenon had a strong effect on
all regions of the Republic of Armenia. Since the border regions
of Armenia and the Mountainous Republic of Karabakh were more strongly
integrated into the neighboring countries' economy, they suffered
the most damage, thus resulting in the mass exodus of people. Some
of the fleeing population settled in the capital of the Republic
of Armenia, Yerevan, creating more problems for the already burdened
city. But the majority of the people emigrated to Russia and to
other CIS countries.
3.WHAT CAN WE DO?
"Yerkir" UNGO finds that, in order to stop the migration
and to maintain stable development of the socio-economy, Armenia
has only one route to take. Armenia has to downsize the industrial
towns and to reorganize and to repopulate the villages by realizing
agricultural development projects, in varying fields.
4.WHERE?
Currently, "Yerkir" UNGO has on-going repatriation and
development projects in the border regions of RA Davoush and RA
Kegharkunik, and in the NKR regions of Nor Shahumian, Mardakert,
Marduni and Hadrout (You can see the regions that fall within the
project on the map). Naturally, the priority to return to the repatriated
villages belongs to the previous residents of the villages, most
of whom are willing to return to their familiar homes, should they
be provided with the necessary support.
