"Yerkir" UNGO was founded in November 2002. The organization unites various NGO's from the Republics of Armenia and Karabakh as well as the Armenian Diaspora. "Yerkir" goal is to repatriate and develop the border regions of the two republics improving the socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions of life in these regions.

Yerkir UNGO's principal specific goals are:

• Encourage the repatriation and settlement of communities within the border regions of the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Assist the refugees residing in Armenia, and insure protection of their rights.
• Encourage the return of people who have left the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh, by creating favorable living conditions in their homeland communities.
• Create conditions for stopping migration of people from the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Encourage the social, economic and cultural development of the border regions of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Assist in the protection of civic, legal and social rights within the border communities of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Create and implement projects, that are directed towards the social, economic and cultural development of the border regions of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Encourage the study and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage sites within the border regions of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.
• Encourage the establishment of local organizations dealing with the issues of repatriation and settlement within the border regions of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh. Encourage volunteer membership in the established organizations.
• Encourage preservation of peace and stability in the region, by insuring developed border regions.
